Notebooks, Colours and all that Jazz.

Well today is the day a lot of us have been waiting for, especially my MacCraic co-host Dave.   Apple are holding an event with the title “the spotlight turns to notebooks”.   I wonder whatever they could be going to talk about. :-)

I’m not a big fan of the rumour mill as I feel that in recent times they have gotten it too right and some of the magic of the occasion is lost in that.   I kind of like to be surprised.   That being said I am going to throw in my two cent worth.   These are a mix of what I think we will see and what I would like to see.

MacBook.   Aluminium chasse like it’s richer cousin the MacBookPro.   I think that is a given.  But wait for it here is the “I wonder if they will” moment…what about “MacChromatic”.   Yes I said it “MacChromatic”, MacBooks with similar colours to the Nano line up.   The most colourful MacBook line up ever.  Just a thought.

MacBookPro.  Thinner, more sculpted like the MacBookAir with perhaps a touch screen trackpad.   Also loosing the clasp and becoming more like the MacBook and MacBookAir having the magnetic closure.   BluRay to be made available on the higher spec models.

Across the line I expect to see improved battery performance, the combination of firewire 400 and 800 into one port, the move to a mini DVI.

The MacBookAir I think will simply get a speed and capacity bump.   No chance of redesigning such a young product.

Now here are some outsiders:

Solid state drives to be available across the entire range with the premium pricing attaching to them.

And the major outsider is the MacTouchTablet which is capeable of being docked into an iMac with a slot specifically built for that (Apple filed a patent for this a while back and we haven’t seen anything in production yet).   This may be a Macworld thing as it would require the introduction of a new iMac and the envent is about notebooks.

Like I said these are just my musings on what I would like to see but regardless I am fairly sure that Apple will have something amazing that will blow us all away later on today.   What is the betting on a share price drop after Wall Street gets a look at how “thin” Steve has become?   Come on stock nuts – get a life.

Here’s hoping you get the Mac for your lifestyle. ;-)

Loved the post and as you said can’t wait for the event to start. If I was Paul o’connell I would be asking apple to “get on with it now or I’ll put the fear of god into you”
